Athletic Bilbao to Win

Reason for tip

Athletic Bilbao, who have lost just one of their last 22 home league games, are looking to register a fourth successive victory in La Liga. They take on a team who have not won in six on the road in the top flight, including a defeat and two draws this season.

Athletic Bilbao 2-1

Reason for tip

Athletic Bilbao have conceded exactly once in four of their eight games this season, but also scored at least twice in three successive league outings. Sevilla lost 2-1 to Alaves in their last away match in La Liga, the second time they have conceded exactly twice on the road this season.

Athletic Bilbao vs Sevilla Predictions

  • Athletic Bilbao have won three league games in a row
  • Sevilla are yet to taste success on the road in La Liga this season
  • The hosts have been beaten just once in their last 22 league fixtures at San Mames

Bilbao on a roll

It has been an impressive start to the season for Athletic Bilbao, who, should they win here, would rack up four successive league victories for the first time since January.

The fact that Ernesto Valverde’s side have beaten Las Palmas, Celta Vigo and Leganes during that run shows the fixture list might been kind to them, but they have been largely comfortable in each outing.

They are also incredibly tough to beat at San Mames, who Atletico Madrid are the only away team to win in the last 22 La Liga fixtures.

Sevilla’s away-day blues

That is not good news for Sevilla, who make the trip to Bilbao attempting to win on the road for the first time in the league this season.

So far, they have lost 2-1 at Alaves, while enjoying, or enduring stalemates against Mallorca (0-0) and Las Palmas (2-2).

As such, García Pimienta’s side have collected only eight points from their opening seven La Liga games, and although they beat Real Valladolid last time out, they have not registered back-to-back successes since April.

I predict that Athletic Bilbao will win this game, with 2-1 to the hosts my correct score prediction.
