Athletic Bilbao vs Sevilla Predictions

Terzic era begins at San Mames

Edin Terzic takes charge of Athletic Bilbao for the first time in a competitive game this weekend as Sevilla visit San Mames.

Former Borussia Dortmund boss Terzic has replaced long-serving manager Ernesto Valverde, who departed the club for the third time as a manager after a four-year stint at the end of last season.

Sevilla have seen a number of key men depart over the summer and on paper look a weaker side than the team that finished just one point clear of the drop zone last season. However, they impressed in a 2-1 win over Rayo Vallecano last weekend and may be able to follow that up with a positive result at Bilbao.

The best angle for our main bet, however, could be backing both teams to score rather than a result.

Bilbao conceded in their final six games last season and only failed to score in one of their last eight. Their defence has also struggled over the summer with four goals conceded in total across their last two friendlies.

Sevilla have just one clean sheet in their last 14 competitive games in a run stretching back to February, but they have scored in their last five games including pre-season outings and they look sharp when beating Rayo last week.

Bilbao have home advantage and will be looking to impress their new boss but Sevilla have had the benefit of starting the season a week earlier. Both teams won their respective home games in the head-to-head meetings last season but both games were close. Sevilla’s performance against Rayo suggests they can nick a point in Bilbao and a 1-1 draw seems a reasonable correct score prediction.
