Valverde can get a tune of Athletic

Villarreal travel to San Mames on Sunday with a chance of bolstering their Champions League hopes against a home side that look increasingly unlikely to play in Europe next season.

Athletic Club are paying the price for their shocking away form and prolonged defensive deficiencies, although Ernesto Valverde can still get a tune out of them at home.

The Basque outfit have won three of their last four La Liga matches at La Catedral, including a recent 2-1 victory over fifth-placed Real Betis. They have a good home record against Villarreal and were unlucky to lose 1-0 at the Ceramica earlier this season.

Goals at both ends in Bilbao

The Yellow Submarines, meanwhile, lost 1-0 at Girona last week to make it five defeats in their last eight away games in all competitions. Marcelino’s men have scored no more than once in any of their last five road trips and could struggle to take anything more than a point on Sunday.

The hosts are worth backing in the Draw no Bet market because of their solid home record and Villarreal’s recent road struggles.
