Atleti to edge past struggling Eibar

Atletico Madrid looked to be running away with the title in La Liga at the turn of the year, but they will head into the weekend sitting just a point clear of the chasing pack after winning only four of their last 11 league games.

A lack of goals has been one of Atleti’s biggest concerns of late, as they have only scored twice in their last four games, with the injury absence of leading scorer Luis Suarez likely to add to those troubles.

It is not all doom and gloom for Diego Simeone’s side, however, as they do still boast the best home record in La Liga this season, as they have accumulated 36 points from their 15 matches to date.

A home clash with bottom of the table Eibar would appear the ideal fixture for Atleti to return to form, with the visitors having failed to win any of their last 13 league games.

Eibar are also without an away win in La Liga since November and Jose Luis Mendilibar’s side are also the joint lowest scorers in the division having netted just 22 goals all season.

Given both sides struggles in front of goal, it may well be a tight fixture on Sunday and we are predicting under 2.5 goals to be scored.

However, Atleti’s greater quality should ultimately shine through, so we are predicting a home win, although it may not make easy viewing for supporters.
