Eintracht Frankfurt 3-1 @ 14/1

Reason For Augsburg vs Eintracht Frankfurt Predictions

Augsburg couldn’t have started the season much worse. After being beaten convincingly by Borussia Dortmund in their opening game, where Florian Niederlechner put them 1-0 up within the opening minute, they were held to a 1-1 draw by Bundesliga newcomers Union Berlin, before losing once again to Werder Bremen. If these performances are anything to go off, Augsburg could be looking at another season battling down the bottom.

Coach Martin Schmidt will have had plenty to think about over the international break, with his Augsburg side now winless in seven league matches. Interestingly, Frankfurt were the last team they managed to take all three points off. However, they could probably do without facing Frankfurt and their new loanee signing Andre Silva, who reached 13 international goals for Portugal in fewer games than Cristiano Ronaldo, again so soon.

Eintracht Frankfurt’s season started a lot earlier than most, with Adi Hutter’s side involved in Europa League action as early as July over the summer. The Eagles’ hard work has paid off as they see themselves confirmed in the group stages and so focus has returned to the Bundesliga, where they beat Fortuna Dusseldorf 2-1 last time out.

Frankfurt look to have reestablished a threatening forward line after the departures of Sebastien Haller, Luka Jovic and Ante Rebic during the summer transfer window, with Bas Dost being another of their new signings. He scored on his first appearance for the club off the bench last weekend and should like his chances this weekend against an Augsburg side that has conceded a massive 21 goals in their last five Bundesliga games.

Goals are, therefore, something that we have come to expect from Augsburg games – both teams have scored in each of their last six matches across all competitions – and this clash doesn’t look to be set up much different. Neither side has failed to score in any of their games so far this season, and only Frankfurt are yet to keep a clean sheet – in their opening 1-0 win at home to Hoffenheim.

Notably, only four sides have seen more goals in their Bundesliga games so far than Augsburg – Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Mainz and Werder Bremen. With this fixture being historically high-scoring too – in fact, just one of the last six games between them has seen fewer than three goals scored – we reckon that “both teams to score and over 2.5 goals” looks a great bet for this game.

Only two sides have seen more shots on goal against them than Augsburg so far this season, so with Frankfurt ranking second overall for shots on target (21 – just two fewer than Bayern Munich), we certainly expect them to get a result from this game. We don’t have a huge sample of games for Augsburg’s defense this season, but we can look back and see that playing at home hasn’t helped them keep goals out, so we’re backing Frankfurt to dominate and win 3-1.
