Austria to Win

Reason for tip

Austria have won eight of their last 10 home games while Norway have won only two of their last eight away games, against Ireland and Cyprus. They have lost three of those eight and may go the same way as Italy, Sweden, Germany, Turkiye and Serbia did when they last travelled to Vienna.

Austria 3-1

Reason for tip

Norway have shipped exactly three goals in three of their last six away internationals, including three to Scotland last November. They also lost 3-1 to Denmark recently and a similar outcome against an in-form Austria could be on the cards.

A Vienna waltz for Austria?

Austria are likely to be too sharp for Norway in Sunday’s UEFA Nations League B promotion battle in Vienna. A win would see Ralf Rangnick’s side overhaul the Lions at the top of Group B3 and put them in pole position to join Europe’s elite in the next cycle.

Das Team have been operating at an elite level since almost the day Rangnick too over the reins in 2022. They have won eight of their last 10 home games, a run which includes defeats of Italy (2-0), Germany (2-0) and Turkiye (6-1).

Last summer they beat eventual semi-finalists Netherlands 3-2 at the Euros, but it is not just Austria’s results under the godfather of gegenpressing that have caught the eye.  Rangnick has instilled a relentless style of play that has overwhelmed several technically-superior opponents — or at least they probably thought they were before they played Austria.

Norway have been shipping goals on the road

Norway will probably have no such pretensions and, without injured midfielder Martin Odegaard, they may look to miss out the midfield more times than not in order to avoid being caught in Rangnick’s traps.

With Erling Haaland and Antonio Nusa in good form, they will have a good shout of getting a goal or two in Vienna. But their defence could come under serious pressure from an Austria side that attacks from all angles.

The home side are backable at around even money and a 3-1 victory could be possible if their gameplan works out. Norway have shipped exactly three goals in three of their last six away games, including a 3-1 friendly defeat to Denmark in the summer.
