AZ Alkmaar and Both Teams To Score

Reason for tip

AZ have won five of six games this season with both teams scoring in the last two. They should have too much quality in attack for Elfsborg, who were fortunate not to lose to Hammarby on Sunday. Elfsborg have scored in their last eight away games though and can score in Alkmaar.

AZ Alkmaar 3-1

Reason for tip

AZ scored nine at home to Heerenveen recently and two at PEC Zwolle last weekend, so they are in superb goalscoring order. Elfsborg’s goal led a charmed life on Sunday as Hammarby twice struck the woodwork, so a 3-1 score might be on the cards given the visitors usually score on the road.

AZ Alkmaar vs Elfsborg Predictions

  • AZ have won five of six games this season with both teams scoring in the last two
  • Elfsborg have scored in their last eight away games
  • Ibrahim Sadiq has scored three goals in his last two appearances and has the pace to get behind the Elfsborg defence

Dutch delight on the cards for in-form AZ

AZ should be too strong for Elfsborg when the Swedish side visit AFAS Stadion in the Europa League on Wednesday night.

Maarten Martens’ men won their fifth game of the Eredivisie season at the weekend and sit just two points off the top of the table after six matchday.

The Alkmaar club won two of their three home group games in the Conference League last season and gave Aston Villa a good game when they went to Villa Park.  AZ thrashed Heerenveen 9-1 in the league a couple of weeks ago and followed that up with a 2-1 win at PEC Zwolle.

Sadiq to score looks a good bet

They may have a defensive vulnerability in the air, however, which should give Elfsborg a decent chance of grabbing a goal. Oscar Hiljemark’s side drew 0-0 at home to Hammarby on Sunday with their goal leading a charmed life when the visitors struck the woodwork twice late on.

Backing both teams to score looks like a solid play here, but AZ’s superior quality in attack should see them take three points in the opening game of the competition’s League phase.

Ibrahim Sadiq, who scored against Villa last season, has the pace and confidence to get on the scoresheet in this game after he bagged three goals in his last two games for the Dutch club.
