      Barcelona vs Roma Predictions

Barca sent out a message not only to their arch domestic rivals but the rest of Europe with their stunning 4-0 win at the Bernabeu in El Clasico at the weekend. Even without Leo Messi, they stormed into a 3-0 lead and when they are at their best, surely there is nobody in Europe who is able to live with them.

No side has ever defended the UEFA Champions League crown but no side has looked more likely than this current Barcelona crop. Their performance on Saturday was very much reminiscent of the glory days under Guardiola and they will obviously come into this match on a real high.

Barca haven’t qualified yet but with 10 points from their opening 4 games they are very much in pole position and will qualify with just a point here but they’re sure to go hunting the win. It’s an important game for Roma too, who are 2nd in the group but only 1 point clear of Bayer Leverkusen and 2 clear of BATE, who they play on matchday 6.

Roma picked up a crucial 3-2 win against the Germans last time out and have taken 4 points from their last 2 games in Serie A including a derby win over Lazio, so they are in decent form. However just 2 clean sheets in 17 matches and 10 goals conceded already in this competition signify where their problems lie.

Their two away games in the group so far have seen them concede 4 times in Leverkusen and 3 times in Barysaw and obviously a trip to Barcelona will be far more of a test for their leaky defence. Roma did score 6 goals in those matches but won’t see as much of the ball here and are up against a Barca defence that has started to get their act together.

If you discount a 0-0 draw in the Copa del Rey, when Luis Enrique rested virtually his entire senior squad, Barca have won all of their last 7 matches and all of them by 2 goals or more. They have kept 5 consecutive clean sheets now in all competitions too and with Leo Messi likely to return to the starting eleven, bizarrely perhaps with something of a point to prove given how well they’ve done in his absence, you have to fancy another comfortable win for the Catalans here.

At 9/10 you can back them starting with a -1.75 Asian handicap, which looks a solid bet given their recent margin of victories coupled with Roma’s poor defensive record.

Roma are not a bad side by any means, but when Barcelona are at their best, which they most certainly are right now, they can blow even the best sides away as Real Madrid found out at the weekend. They’ve won all of their last 3 games by either 3-0 or 4-0 scorelines and have scored 14 goals in their last 4 matches at the Camp Nou.

Therefore another win of that nature should be on the cards here and they are decent value at 15/2 to win this 3-0.
