Basel vs Grasshopper Betting Tips & Predictions

Basel completely dominated Swiss football again this season and secured the Super League title with a significant portion of the season remaining to play with. This was their 7th consecutive league triumph, and their dominance is showing no signs of slowing down.

They come into their final league game of the season with a 17 point lead over 2nd placed Young Boys in the table and having picked up five more points than they managed last season and with 11 more than they managed to season before. Rather than the other clubs catching up with them, it seems Basel are just widening the gap.

They did suffer a rare defeat a couple of weeks ago as Luzern shocked them with a 4-0 win at home, resigning Basel to their worst defeat in domestic football since a 4-0 loss to Grasshopper back in April 2010. The champions bounced back from this with a 3-2 win over Young Boys to make it three wins, one draw, and one defeat in their last five outings.

They are even more impressive at home and come into this game unbeaten in 12 competitive games on home turf, eight of which have been victories.

Grasshopper are enduring a pretty miserable campaign considering they are historically the most successful side in Switzerland. They have only managed two wins in their last 11 outings in the Super League and find their Europa League qualifying position in jeopardy.

They are in 4th position, a poor result for them to begin with, but they are only one point clear of Sion in 5th. A defeat on Wednesday could see them miss out on continental competition, although a victory could see them move into 3rd place.

Basel may be injury hit and have already sealed the title, but don’t expect them to lie down for this one. They beat Young Boys away from home with their injury problems present and they will be relishing the opportunity to push Grasshopper further into despair on Wednesday.

The visitors have lost four of their last six away matches as well, so odds of 17/20 for a Basel Win look incredibly good value given their home form this season. I’m going for a 2-1 correct score prediction at 15/2 as well.
