Bayer bound to make it 51 without defeat against Augsburg

Bayer Leverkusen are just three games away from going the entire season without losing as they extended their unbeaten run to 50 games with a sensational 5-0 drubbing of Bochum last Sunday. 

Xabi Alonso’s side have Europa League and DFB Pokal finals to look forward to, but the task at hand first is to become the first side to ever go unbeaten throughout an entire Bundesliga season by avoiding defeat against Augsburg. 

That task shouldn’t cause the runaway champions too many issues, though, given the visitor have lost four on the spin and Bayer have won nine of their last 11 at the BayArena.

However, while Leverkusen look set to make it a fitting end to the Bundesliga season by landing three points, a clean sheet may be beyond them. 

Augsburg have scored in their last three away games, despite losing each of those ties, and this fixture has a history of excitement, with five of the last seven head-to-heads seeing both teams find the net. 

Five of Bayer’s last seven games have seen both sides score while they have conceded twice in each of their last two home matches, drawing both of those fixtures. So with rotation likely for the hosts, the visitors could net in defeat.
