Bayern Munich vs Hertha Berlin Predictions

Bayern Munich maintained their 100% winning start to the season under Carlo Ancelotti with a convincing 3-1 triumph over FC Ingolstadt last Saturday. Though the reigning champions saw themselves concede for the first time in five consecutive matches (and trail for the first time this season), it took striker Robert Lewandowski just four minutes to bring Bayern level and take his tally to five goals in the Bundesliga. Persistent as always going forward, especially at the Allianz Arena, Bayern Munich sealed all three points thanks to goals from Xabi Alonso and Rafinha. Winger Frank Ribery (pictured above) was particularly impressive this match, assisting all three of the Bavarian’s goals.

Hertha’s bittersweet end to their 2015/2016 campaign, where their eventual 7th placed finish overshadowed their prior twenty-week-long stint within the top four, has clearly not knocked their confidence coming into the new season. Hertha’s quick exit from the UEFA Europa League in the third qualifying round against Brondby meant their sole focus is on the Bundesliga come the opening match. Hertha have taken the maximum nine points from their first three fixtures – only Bayern Munich have done the same. Though Hertha had a relatively easy start to the season, hosting newly-promoted Freiburg in their opener and travelling to FC Ingolstadt in their second, the Berliners showed it hasn’t all been a fluke with a 2-0 win at home to giants Schalke last time out.

Though Bayern’s record against most teams in the Bundesliga is pretty stellar, their ten consecutive competitive wins against Hertha BSC remains an impressive feat. It comes as no surprise then that Munich are huge favourites for this match. We find the bookies’ undesirable price of 1/7 on the reigning champions to win not to have much value, unless adding them to an accumulator. Instead, we feel the value here is in the bookies generously priced “both teams to score” market. While we expect Bayern Munich to take all three points away here, Hertha are in decent form and regularly scoring goals, averaging two goals per game over their opening three matches.

Considering that Bayern Munich conceded at home to the out-of-form Ingolstadt last time out, we don’t think it’s unreasonable to assume that the only other side to have won all three matches so far could at least take away a consolation goal here. Ingolstadt have shown that there are cracks in the surface of the “invincible” Bayern Munich.

As such, Bayern Munich to win and both teams to score at 21/10 and Bayern Munich to win 3-1 at 11/1 are our choice bets for this match.
