Bayern Munich vs Rostov Predictions

Bayern Munich have begun life after Pep Guardiola in emphatic fashion, although you wouldn’t expect anything less from the dominant German giants. Carlo Ancelotti has brought in the likes of Mats Hummels and Renato Sanches for big money over the summer and let go of dead weight, including Mario Gotze, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Sebastian Rode.

Their season started with a 2-0 win over Borussia Dortmund in the German Super Cup and was followed by a 5-0 demolition of Carl Zeiss Jena in the DFB Pokal. They didn’t let-up after this though and went on to hammer Werder Bremen 6-0 in their Bundesliga opener, with Robert Lewandowski starting his season off with a hat trick.

Lewandowski added another goal to his record in Bayern Munich’s 2-0 defeat of Schalke at the weekend, but now their attentions turn towards the Champions League. Their opener against Rostov can be classed as their most winnable match, with the other teams in their group being Dutch giants PSV and twice beaten finalists Atletico Madrid.

However, Rostov won’t lie down for Bayern Munich. This is their debut season in the Champions League and they haven’t wasted time in defying the odds. They beat Ajax 5-2 on aggregate to reach the group stages after dispatching of Anderlecht 4-2 on aggregate. This comes just a year after they made their major European debut with a Europa League playoff elimination at the hands of Trabzonspor.

The visitors season hasn’t started off phenomenally well overall though. They have only won five of their opening ten competitive games and find themselves down in 5th position in the Russian Premier League. Away from home they have only won one of their four games, losing against Zenit and Terek Grozny.

Carlo Ancellotti has already shown this season that he doesn’t allow his team to back-off when they’re in front, and that could spell disaster for Rostov. The hosts’ have by far the better quality of player and have shown their class with a couple of hammerings already this season.  They have won each of their last 12 home games in the Champions League. Six of their last ten at home in the Champions League have seen them win by three goals or more as well, so odds of 2.025 for a Bayern Munich -3.0 Asian Handicap look good value to me. I’m going for a 5-0 correct score prediction at 9/1 as well.
