Reason For Birmingham vs West Bromwich Albion Predictions

  • West Brom haven’t tasted defeat since losing to the current league leaders back at the start of October.
  • West Brom are the only Championship team to have notched over 40 league goals this season.
  • Birmingham haven’t beaten West Brom since 2006. The Baggies have since won four out of six renewals.

Blues struggling to get their noses in front

Marooned in mid-table is not where Birmingham fans want to see their side, but that’s exactly what they’re faced with at present. Moreover, the Blues are unlikely to climb up the table when they’re making hard work of picking up regular wins.

As recent results suggest, Birmingham are starting to make themselves hard to beat – they’ve lost just one of their last five – but they’re struggling to come out on top in these clashes. Things haven’t exactly gone well at home, where Birmingham are without a win in three, two of which they’ve lost.

It’s not that teams go to St. Andrew’s and run riot, but Saturday’s hosts struggle to seriously outplay teams, especially in terms of goals. They’ve conceded a very respectable nine in 10 games, though they’ve only scored 11. Therein lies the problem. Mediocrity is all they’ll achieve if they’re producing mediocre numbers.

Baggies to bounce back?

In contrast, West Brom have been excellent this term and have had no problem at all getting their noses in front. Only Leeds have won more league games than the Baggies, who’ve won 13 out of 21 in the Championship this term.

As well as picking up wins at an impressive rate, especially of late, winning six of their last seven, West Brom have become experts at avoiding defeat. They’ve lost just once in the league all season.

Compared to their only real title rivals, West Brom haven’t been seriously impressive at the back. They’ve conceded 21 goals, which is 11 more than Leeds, and have kept only five clean sheets, which is seven less than the current league leaders. However, where they’ve been better is in the final third, scoring a pleasing 42 goals, 10 more than Leeds. West Brom also have the best away record in the division, winning seven, drawing three and losing just one of their 11 travelling matches.

Visitors to edge it

Birmingham are certainly not a side who get rolled over at home, but their lack of goals is a worry, especially against a side that has a fantastic habit of getting the job done on the road. Specifically, ‘West Brom to Win & Under 3.5 Goals’ catches the eye.

Despite not losing heavily, Birmingham have been struggling to score at home, notching just one in their last three at St. Andrew’s, while West Brom have done a good job of stopping teams from scoring on the road, conceding just one in their last five, four of which they’ve won.

Moreover, less than four goals have been scored in each of Birmingham’s last five at home, as well in each of West Brom’s last five on the road. So a low-scoring win for the visitors, who ultimately are the stronger side, appeals.
