Both Teams To Score

Reason for tip

Blackburn are the image of inconsistency this season and have alternated wins with defeats across their last nine games, suggesting that Sunderland can possibly exploit their defence in a topsy-turvy game.

Blackburn Rovers vs Sunderland Predictions

  • Both teams scored in over half of Sunderland’s away league games.
  • Three of Sunderland’s last five league games ended level.
  • Only one visiting side kept Blackburn off the scoresheet this season.

Goals could be on the cards at Blackburn

A run of nine straight games alternating between defeat and victory is a source of frustration for Blackburn boss John Dahl Tomasson, although it has left them in the top-six ahead of this round.

Looking to record back-to-back wins for the first time since the opening three games of the season, Blackburn must overcome a resurgent Sunderland. Tony Mowbray’s men won 2-1 against Wigan last time out, showing that they can indeed score even without Simms and Stewart, two of their best players who remain injured.

In fact, Middlesbrough were the only side to keep Sunderland from scoring in an away league game this season after seven such trips, so the Black Cats will hope to bite Blackburn here. There is an added layer of spice in this game as Mowbray returns to Ewood Park for the first time since leaving the club last year, so he will be keen to get one over his old club.

The revenge of Mowbray

Blackburn have won each of their last three home games but with the visit of Sunderland, Mowbray can give them a great game. Not many people know the current Blackburn squad as well as Mowbray after his 267 games as their manager, so he can mastermind a strong Sunderland performance which could see BTTS.

As for the correct score, we’re taking a chance on an entertaining 2-2 draw, a result which would give Blackburn their first stalemate after a drawless opening 15 rounds (W8, L7).
