Bolivia vs Uruguay Predictions
Common sense would dictate that Uruguay have much the stronger side and should win the game but in the altitude of La Paz, things are rarely that simple. Uruguay’s record here is worse than most and the 2 times World Champions have never won a FIFA World Cup qualifying match in Bolivia.
The most recent World Cup qualifying clash between these sides was in La Paz in October 2012 and a Uruguayan side featuring Luis Suarez, Diego Forlan and Edinson Cavani was blown away by a Carlos Saucedo hat-trick that helped put Bolivia 4-0 up inside an hour. Suarez grabbed a late consolation but nobody in the Uruguay camp will be looking forward to this fixture and they’ll have had hardly any time to acclimitise with most of their squad involved in club matches in Europe last weekend.
It is over a decade since Bolivia lost a home competitive match to one of the continent’s dominant 3 sides, Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay and it is hard to see that changing here. Uruguay made a very slow start to the last qualifying campaign and were unimpressive at Copa America during the summer.
They will still be without the suspended Luis Suarez here while Cavani is also suspended having been sent off in the quarter-final of Copa America. That makes an already tough task even tougher and Bolivia look like good value at 11/10 to win in the ‘draw no bet’ market.
They did well to reach the Quarter Finals at Copa America in Chile and although they were hammered 7-0 by Argentina in a recent friendly they’ll be much more comfortable back on home soil where they haven’t lost any of their last 6 competitive games.
It’s likely to be close still but Bolivia’s familiarity with the conditions should see them edge it and you can back them to win 2-1 at 10/1.
