Borussia Dortmund vs Wolfsburg Predictions

  • Borussia Dortmund’s last four fixtures in all competitions have averaged 4.75 goals.
  • Dortmund won each of their two meetings with Wolfsburg last season by an aggregate score of 7-1.
  • Over 2.5 goals have been scored in three of Wolfsburg’s four assignments in league and cup this term.

Dortmund to prevail in high-scoring showdown

Nico Kovac’s Borussia Dortmund let a two-goal advantage slip in injury time against Juventus in a pulsating Champions League encounter (4-4) in midweek, and eventually had to settle for a point in Turin when three were there for the taking.

However, despite their frustrating late capitulation, Dortmund again showcased their goal-scoring prowess, netting at least three goals for the third time in their last four fixtures.

Kovac’s side have been playing some sparkling football in the final third and in the Bundesliga, only Bayern Munich have been averaging more shots on target per game and more touches in the attacking third than Dortmund.

Four-goal Serhou Guirassy, who has lodged 15 shots in three Bundesliga appearances, remains the focal point, though the Guinean striker has been well supplied by a creative supporting cast.

Bettors should expect Dortmund to create more chances against Wolfsburg in what could develop into a high-scoring clash with Die Wolfe.

Wolfsburg chased and appointed Paul Simonis in the summer after the promising Dutch coach led Go Ahead Eagles to KNVB Cup glory for the first time in their history in May and the adventurous tactician’s influence has already been felt.

An improving Wolfsburg drew 3-3 with Cologne in their last assignment and that was the third fixture in four under Simonis where they hit three or more goals.

With Sunday’s game something of a free hit for underdogs Wolfsburg, we expect them to trade blows with Dortmund, but with the host’s superior class obvious, combining a home win with over 2.5 goals should be of interest.

In keeping with that, backing Dortmund to win 3-2 is our favoured approach in the correct score stakes. Dortmund scored three goals in their last Bundesliga home game against Union Berlin and another treble should get them over the line against Wolfsburg.
