Bristol City vs Millwall Predictions
- Millwall are unbeaten in their last nine league trips with six wins and three draws
- Bristol City lost at home to League Two Walsall in the EFL Cup last weekend
- Millwall have won on three of their last four visits to Ashton Gate
Wasteful Robins are not to be trusted
Bristol City and Millwall meet at Ashton Gate on Saturday with both sides entering the Championship opener from very different emotional starting points.
Michael Skubala’s first competitive match in charge of Bristol City ended in a shock Carabao Cup defeat to League Two Walsall last weekend while Millwall claimed a dramatic win over QPR in the same competition.
The Robins boss lamented his side’s wastefulness, slow ball movement and a lack of cutting edge in a 1-0 home loss in which they had 71.9% possession and 33 shots, yet failed to score. Five debutants started with new striker Dom Ballard entering off the bench in the second half, and while the structure looked promising, the execution did not.
Lions can lean on their excellent record
Skubala hopes a full week on the training ground will sharpen their tempo and decision‑making ahead of this tough test against the Lions. Millwall won the most away points in the division last season and held Premier League-bound Hull to a goalless draw at their own ground in the playoffs.
That made it nine away league games without defeat for Alex Neil’s men and they should feel confident heading to Ashton Gate, where they have won on three of their last four visits.
Back Millwall to edge a cagey contest 1-0, the same scoreline as last season, as Skubala’s side seem to be missing a key element at the moment – the ability to put the ball in the back of the net.
