HJK to fall short on the road again

An equaliser from former Norwich striker Teemu Pukki secured HJK a 1-1 draw against Motherwell last week, but based on their away record, that might not have been enough.

HJK sit third in the Veikkausliiga after 19 matches, and they’ve won only four of their 10 trips, suffering four defeats. Their 3-0 win at Northern Irish side Coleraine in the last round ended a run of 19 European away trips without a victory.

They were beaten in all three League Phase trips in the Conference League in 2024, while they lost 4-0 at Faroe side NSI Runavik in qualifying last summer.

Motherwell eased past another Faroe side, HB, with an 8-0 aggregate win in the last round. They’ve made a solid start to the season with three wins and two draws from five matches, and they should prove too strong for a HJK side that already looks vulnerable on the road.
