Cambridge United vs Grimsby Predictions
As is so often proved in the lower leagues, there is often little to choose between sides who are languishing in the lower half of the table and those at the top of the division and on any given day, the side who are expected to be defeated can upset their more fancied opposition. This Tuesday Cambridge United have the opportunity to build some real momentum after their victory over Exeter at the weekend when they face a Grimsby side who are looking to bounce back from their recent slump.
Saturday’s impressive 4-0 victory over then league leaders Exeter City means that Cambridge United have climbed the table and are currently in 10th place. That being said, they’ve not been in great form of late, and the weekend’s victory was their first win in their last five outings.
Saturday aside, the main problem for the hosts of late is that they’ve not been doing enough in the final third, both in terms of creativity and end-product, which is why they had scored just three goals in their four games prior to that Exeter win. A far from impressive home record has seen them lose three of their seven matches in front of a home crowd.
Making the trip to the Abbey Stadium is a Grimsby Town side who have every reason to be feeling down in the dumps at the moment as they have suffered three defeats in succession and have started to slip down the table. The Mariners had started the season strongly and were finding the back of the net on a regular basis, however, they have managed just one goal in those three matches and after conceding four last time out, it is not as if they have compensated for their dip up top with a more solid display at the back.
A look at the head to head gives a firm indication of who should come out on top as Cambridge have won each of the last three encounters between these two sides. When you also consider the woes of the visitors at the moment, then backing a home win looks to be a solid bet. However, given the hosts inconsistent nature, especially on home soil, adding the “Draw – No Bet” clause looks to be a wise move.
In terms of a correct score, we cannot help but think the morale boosting win Cambridge managed at the weekend will give them momentum, while the heavy defeat inflicted on the visitors may make this a tough 90 minutes for them. Therefore, we think a routine 2-0 Cambridge victory is on the cards.
