Sporting Lisbon and Both Teams To Score
Reasoning
Casa Pia vs Sporting Lisbon Predictions
- Sporting beat Casa Pia in both league meetings last season.
- Casa Pia scored in 16 of their final 17 home games last term.
- Sporting won 11 of their 17 away games last term, losing just once.
Sporting defence begins at Rio Maior
Sporting CP are looking to win a third successive Portuguese league title and they have a fairly tough opener as they head to Casa Pia on Friday night.
Casa Pia finished in mid-table last season and were generally tough to beat at home, losing just five of their 17 games at the Estádio Municipal de Rio Maior in the league. However, the Lisbon club did win both league meetings between these sides last term.
Sporting kicked off the new season with a Super Cup defeat to arch rivals Benfica but they can bounce back in their league opener. The visitors are clear favourites to win so the best way to get a bit of value out of backing Sporting looks to be an away win with both teams to score.
Os Gansos scored on their defeat to Sporting in the corresponding fixture in March last season and were generally good for a goal at home – as Casa Pia only failed to score in three of their home games across all competitions last season, and two of those blanks came in their first pair of home games.
Sporting can cope after Gyokeres exit
Sporting have to find a way to cope without the goals Viktor Gyokeres provided but they have plenty of attacking talent and should still be a major threat going forward. Colombian Luis Suarez has arrived from Almeria in a big money move, youngster Conrad Harder could be in line for a big season and Trincao had nine goals and 14 assists in 34 league appearances last season.
Trincao was probably Sporting’s best player in the defeat to Benfica earlier this month and he looks a solid pick for an anytime effort here. A 3-1 win for Sporting is the correct score prediction as they should be able to win with a bit of room to spare even if they do concede, as they have scored multiple goals in seven consecutive meetings with Casa Pia – winning all of them.
