Charlton vs Wycombe Wanderers Predictions
- The tie is in the balance after a 0-0 first leg.
- Charlton beat Wycombe twice in the regular season.
- The Addicks are unbeaten at home since December – a run stretching 15 games (W13, D3).
Wembley awaits Charlton or Wycombe
Charlton entertain Wycombe in the second leg of a finely balanced League One play-off tie on Thursday.
There was little to separate these sides in a goalless draw on Sunday at Adams Park, but Charlton now have the edge with home advantage in the second leg.
The Addicks beat Wycombe twice in the normal League One season and have been exceptional at home for some time. Charlton are unbeaten in their last 15 games at this venue across all competitions, winning 13 of those, in a run stretching back to mid December.
The Chairboys had the second best away record in the league over the course of the season and they suffered just five defeats in 23 trips. Two of those losses did come in their final four games, however, and they lost the corresponding league game at the Valley so backing Charlton to get the job done in 90 minutes looks a strong option for our main bet.
Wycombe scored an impressive 70 goals in 46 league games and a repeat of the 0-0 first leg looks unlikely. Both sides created opportunities on Sunday and on another day we may have seen a few goals in that fixture.
Charlton have scored at least twice in five successive home games but they also conceded in four of those fixtures. Taking all that into account, a 2-1 win for the hosts seems a reasonable correct score prediction.
Matty Godden has had a great season in League One after making the move from Coventry and the Charlton forward looks the standout anytime scorer option. The 33-year-old had 18 goals in 42 games this season in the league and has four in total across his last five games. Godden had two attempts at Adams Park, the 12th successive game in which he has had multiple shots, so he should get a few chances on Wednesday and he can help fire Charlton to Wembley.
