Chelsea vs Swansea Predictions
The Portuguese boss lost to Arsene Wenger for the first time in his career last weekend as Arsenal won the Community Shield at Wembley. However we should read little into that as history shows that the Community Shield winners rarely go on to win the Premier League.
Chelsea are the title favourites again but have had a relatively quiet summer by their standards. They are still working on a deal for Everton’s John Stones but it is unlikely that any of their new signings will start on Saturday although Radomel Falcao could again feature from the bench. Loic Remy started that match up front but Diego Costa will return on Saturday if he can overcome a hamstring problem although he remains a major doubt.
Swansea have once again gone about their business quietly this summer but Gary Monk will be relatively happy with what he has managed to get done. New signing Andre Ayew could make his debut here and the Ghanaian free transfer could prove one of the signings of the summer. Eder could also feature after signing from Sporting Braga while Michu is back at the club and if Monk can get him back to the level he was at when he first arrived at the club then his strikeforce would be suddenly looking very menacing.
The Swans were unbeaten in pre-season but drew four of their five games against fairly tough opposition with Bundesliga clubs Hamburg and Borussia Monchengladbach among their opponents. However this clearly will be a step up in class and it could be a difficult afternoon against the champions.
Chelsea didn’t have a great pre-season and were beaten at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night in their final friendly game by Fiorentina. Not the ideal preparation for the Premier League perhaps but the Londoners will take comfort from the fact that they scored 9 goals against Swansea in their two meetings last season. The Welsh club may travel with a touch of trepidation but they did win at Old Trafford on the opening day last season.
We can’t see any repeat here though. Chelsea are very strong at home in the Premier League and are good value to win here by two goals or more in the Asian Handicap market at 11/10.
