Both Teams To Score

Reason for tip

Club Brugge scored 62 goals in 30 league games last term and Mechelen managed a solid 39 themselves. Brugge went down 2-1 to Union SG last week and both teams scored in three of their five pre-season games, while Mechelen saw both teams score in three of their final four games last season and goals at both ends could be on the cards here.

Draw 1-1

Reason for tip

Club Brugge may have been crowned champions last term but they only finished six points above Mechelen before the league split. Both games finished level last season so the spoils could well be shared here in this season opener and a 1-1 draw appeals.

Club Brugge vs Mechelen Predictions

  • Both league meetings last season finished all square.
  • Both teams scored in three of Mechelen’s last four games last season.
  • Club Brugge scored in four of their five pre-season games.

Champions Club Brugge face Mechelen test

The new Belgian Pro League season kicks off this weekend and champions Club Brugge entertain KV Mechelen in the curtain raiser on Friday.

Brugge come into the game after Super Cup disappointment, going down 2-1 to Union SG last weekend, and Mechelen have a decent recent record against their hosts – drawing both games last season.

BTTS a good starting point

Club Brugge are the favourites and as champions deservedly so, but KVM were solid on their travels last term and the head-to-head results from last season suggest may be able to get something on Friday.

As such, I’m going to swerve the result markets for the main tip and both teams to score looks a strong play.

Brugge went down 2-1 to Union SG last week and both teams scored in three of their five pre-season games, while they scored in five of those.

Mechelen saw both teams score in three of their final four games last season and the corresponding fixture from last term was a 1-1 draw, so both of these teams look good for a goal in their season opener.

Brugge drew six of their 15 home games last season and KVM picked up a solid 20 points on their travels, so a repeat of last season’s 1-1 draw is the correct score pick.
