Motherwell to Win

Reason for tip

Premiership side Motherwell should have far too much quality for their League Two hosts Clyde in this League Cup fixture.

Motherwell 2-1

Reason for tip

Clyde overcame Edinburgh City 5-0 in their opener and did perform admirably against top tier opposition last season, losing out 2-0 to Aberdeen. The hosts can keep this closer than the odds suggest and may be able to get on the scoresheet against a Well outfit who haven’t managed a clean sheet on their travels since December, so take a chance on a 2-1 win for Motherwell.

Clyde vs Motherwell Predictions

  • Motherwell are a Premiership team, while Clyde play in League Two.
  • The Well won four of their final six away games last season.
  • Clyde lost seven of their eight home league games last term.

Motherwell can retain top spot

Motherwell lead the way in League Cup Group G with five points after two games and they can strengthen their hold on top spot by seeing off League Two outfit Clyde.

The hosts dismantled Edinburgh City 5-0 in their only game so far, while The Well beat the same opponents 3-0 at home and then won on penalties at Montrose in their second game.

The Steelmen look to be taking these early stages of the League Cup seriously and even at a fairly short price they look worth backing here.

Clyde may have put on a show against Edinburgh City, but Motherwell are a Premiership side who finished last season strongly on the road and they should have the class to avoid losing to League Two opposition.

Clyde’s five-goal showing against Edinburgh suggests they can keep this interesting, however, and a 2-1 win for The Well is the correct score pick. Motherwell conceded at Montrose and haven’t kept an away clean sheet since December, a run stretching 12 games, so goals at both ends could be on the cards. Clyde went down 2-0 at home to Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup last season so they may be able to keep this clash a little tighter than the odds suggest.
