Coleraine vs Velez Mostar Predictions

Coleraine entertain Bosnian outfit Velez Mostar in Europa Conference League qualifying on Thursday in the second leg of their first round tie.

The Northern Irish club are still in the tie after a 2-1 defeat in the first leg in Sarajevo, but in truth they were lucky to lose by just a one-goal margin.

Velez dominated that game and enjoyed 59% possession, forcing 31 attempts on goal and eight on target.  Coleraine scored with their only shot on target and managed just one further effort, and if they are to reach the next round they need a much improved performance in the home leg.

The game will be played at Mourneview Park, some 64 miles away from Coleraine, and although this will still feel like a home fixture for the Bannsiders that does remove some of the advantages of being the home side.

Coleraine need to win to keep their European hopes alive but Velez arrive in excellent form and this could be a step too far for the hosts.  Velez are unbeaten in their last 20 competitive matches, and they warmed up for this double header with a friendly win over fellow Bosnian outfit Siroki Brijeg at the end of June.

Coleraine do have a strong home record with just one defeat in their last 16 home games, with 10 wins and five draws.  However, Velez were so dominant in the first game and they should have the quality to come away from Mourneview Park with a win. 

Coleraine should be able to make the tie interesting by grabbing a goal and Velez aren’t particularly prolific scorers having managed 50 in 33 games in their domestic league last season, so a 2-1 win for the visitors appeals in the correct score market.
