A chance to make amends

Both Cologne and Werder Bremen entered the extended winter break on a run of at least two league defeats, so bouncing back to form to kick off 2023 must be seen as a priority for both. The hosts are sailing dangerously close to the drop zone yet without the extra baggage of European participation, they may have what it takes to post some resurgent form.

On the other hand, Werder Bremen have enjoyed an incredible campaign so far with their current 21 point haul representing a stronger return than in seven of their last eight top-flight campaigns. With the possibility of achieving European football a realistic aim in their first season back, expect Werder Bremen to come flying out of the traps.
