Blues to edge Derby closer to the drop
Derby are in real danger of being relegated down to the third-tier of English football for the first time since 1986 following a run of one win in 12 which leaves them firmly at the bottom of the form table.
Wayne Rooney’s side will also head into Saturday’s match on the back of four straight defeats and despite the goalscoring exploits of their manager during his own playing career, the Rams have failed to net in seven of their last 11 games.
Birmingham were also deep in the relegation battle just a few weeks ago, but the appointment of Lee Bowyer has rejuvenated the Blues, as they have lost just once in seven games under their new manager.
Bowyer has built Birmingham’s improvement on a strong defence, as they have conceded just once across their last five games, picking up 11 points in the process.
The Blues have also kept back-to-back clean-sheets on the road, while they have accumulated more away points this season (27) than they have on their own patch (22).
Derby do have an impressive recent record in this fixture and they won December’s reverse meeting 4-0, but given the fortunes of the two sides since then, we are predicting Birmingham to prevail on Saturday.
We are also predicting that Birmingham will win the match to nil, with 1-0 looking a distinct possibility, as the Blues’ last three away victories have ended in that scoreline.
