Corinthians vs Fluminense Predictions

  • Corinthians have nothing left to play for. They will either finish the season in 7th or 8th, both of which securing them qualification to the second round of next year’s Copa Libertadores.
  • Corinthians haven’t ended the season strongly, winning just 3 of their last 15 matches.
  • Fluminense arrive hungry for a win, as it’d secure them a place in next year’s Copa Sudamericana.
  • Fluminense have ended the season well and are unbeaten in 5 matches

Corinthians already looking towards 2020

Whilst Corinthians may have scraped a Copa Libertadores place, it’s not been a great season for them. They started off fairly well but have dropped like a stone in recent months, winning just 3 of their last 15 games and sacking manage Fabio Carille along the way.

Timao have plenty to look forward to next year, with ex-Athletico PR boss Tiago Nunes arriving but as far as this weekend goes, there’s little reason for the team to be highly motivated. Indeed, a scrappy 1-0 win at struggling Ceara wrapped up their continental place and means the hosts will merely be going through the motions on Sunday.

Fluminense vying for a Sudamericana spot

Fluminense have had to fight against relegation throughout the season but having now ensured they’ll avoid the drop, they can set their sights on a continental spot. Currently 14th and a point ahead of Botafogo, Tricolor travel to Sao Paulo knowing that a win would book them a slot in next year’s Copa Sudamericana.

Unbeaten in 5 games, Flu have shown they can hold their nerve when it counts and confidence will be fairly high coming into this game. The side have looked reasonably strong since Marcao came in a few months ago and also having taken 7 points from their last 4 away games, they’ll be assured of their ability to secure a result on enemy territory

Flu’s higher motivation could be the deciding factor

Ultimately, motivation is a huge factor when it comes to assessing this fixture and it’s one in Fluminense’s favour. Corinthians have no need for a result and most concerned with them already have their minds on next season, whereas Fluminense are fully focused on the clash and hungry for the win.

All things considered, we like the look of backing Fluminense on the Draw No Bet line and feel it provides good value. Fluminense have been the far stronger of the two in recent months, have shown they can pick up results away from home and are unbeaten in 4 matches against Corinthians; a streak we fancy them to prolong via a 1-0 margin of victory.
