Corinthians vs Santa Fe Predictions

This could be an intriguing match between two of the strongest teams on the continent but having said that anyone looking for a goal-fest may be wise to look elsewhere. Both teams are built on solid foundations and favour efficiency over flamboyance and their methods have brought both clubs success in recent times.

Corinthians were crowned Brazilian Champions for the 6th time last year and when they won their 5th crown in 2011 they followed that up with a Copa Libertadores win the following year. They have made an unbeaten start to 2016 with 17 points from 7 games firing them to the top of the Paulista standings and that run includes a 2-0 win over Sao Paulo. They were reliant on a stoppage time own goal a fortnight ago to get a 1-0 win in their opening Libertadores match away to Cobresal in Chile and will expect to pick up a 2nd win here.

It won’t be easy though against Santa Fe, who are the current Copa Sudamericana holders following their final win over Huracan in December. They’ve only lost 1 of their 9 fixtures in 2016 but were held to a disappointing 0-0 draw at home to Cerro Porteno in their opening Libertadores group match but hammered Oriente Petrolero 6-1 on aggregate in the preliminary round.

They only lost once on the road in the Copa Sudamericana last year but did struggle to score goals against the better sides and their final 3 games in that competition all finished 0-0. Corinthians aren’t hugely prolific either and are yet to score more than twice in a game this season however they possess that bit of quality that consistently helps to settle tight games so consider backing Corinthians to win 1-0 at 4/1.
