Loko may well resume recent head to head dominance

Lokomotiv Moscow have bested cross city rivals CSKA in the last four meetings between the sides and they could well extend that sequence at VEB Arena this Saturday.

Both teams got their campaigns off to winning starts last weekend as CSKA beat Ufa 1-0 and Lokomotiv eased past Arsenal Tula 3-1, with the latter result making it ten league wins in 12 for Marko Nikolic’s charges, stretching back to last season.

That form helped to earn Lokomotiv a decent third place finish in 2020/21, while CSKA found themselves six points inferior and out of the European places in sixth.

With the new season at such an embryonic stage, Loko’s strong end to last term and dominant recent head to head record are perhaps the best pointers towards the outcome here on Matchday 2.

Lokomotiv certainly look overpriced at around 11/5 based on the above, and we think the visitors can repeat the 0-1 success which they clinched on their last visit to this venue ten months ago.
