Darmstadt 98’s 2-0 defeat away to Hoffenheim last weekend marked their 10th consecutive defeat on the road. Darmstadt sit rock bottom of the Bundesliga and once again find themselves 8 points behind Hamburg and safety from the relegation zone – a sudden return to reality following their shock 2-1 win against Borussia Dortmund last time out at the Jonathan-Heimes-Stadion.

Augsburg’s form took a turn for the worse, as last weekend’s 3-1 defeat at home to Bayer Leverkusen saw the Bavarians suffer two defeats in a row for the first time ever under coach Manuel Baum. However, a bounce back to form could be on the cards here as Augsburg have taken as many points on the road (12) as Darmstadt have in total all season.

Augsburg are slight favourites at 6/4 and we feel that backing the visitors “0.0 Asian Handicap” at 4/5 is one of the best bets available here for the following reasons: simply put, excluding the “fluke” win over Borussia Dortmund a few weeks back, Darmstadt have been in poor shape all season and have only shown minor improvement under coach Frings. Darmstadt’s have earnt all of their points at home, but their home record is nothing to be proud of – the Lillies have lost five of their last seven at home (72%). Augsburg’s away form, though nothing spectacular, has seen them grind out a steady 1.2 points per match on the road, losing just two of their last six away matches (W2 D2 L2). Notably, these two wins were against sides below them in the table (Wolfsburg and Ingolstadt) and Augsburg’s stellar track record against Darmstadt on their own turf – Augsburg have won three of the four meetings between them at the Jonathan Heimes Stadion (75%) – suggests we should expect more of the same here.

Both sides favour scoring late in the match: Augsburg have scored 14 of their 19 goals in the second half, while Darmstadt have scored 10 of their 14 in the last 45 minutes. Hence, backing “Highest Scoring Half – 2nd” at 11/10 would also be a reasonable shout here.

Regarding a correct score bet, Darmstadt are conceding a (2nd) league high average of 1.55 goals per match, so we should expect a few from Augsburg. However, with Augsburg holding just one clean sheet in their last nine matches, a goal for the hosts should be expected. As such, a 2-1 Augsburg win at 9/1 should also offer some decent potential.
