Deportivo La Coruna vs Alaves Predictions
The bookies make Deportivo La Coruna Even money favourites to win this game but it is the visitors who are having much the better season and most things here point to them getting a result.
Their heavy home defeat against Barcelona last weekend was perhaps down to tiredness and team changes as much as anything. A long run in the Copa del Rey which saw them surprisingly progress into the final resulting in them playing two games a week for six consecutive weeks, culminating in that game against the Catalans. Not having a huge squad that clearly ultimately took its toll, they were very grateful for their first midweek off of 2017.
That should allow Alaves to come here rejuvenated to some extent and their overall form prior to the Barca game was very good. They’d only lost once in 17 outings in all competitions prior to it and they’ve quickly cemented their reputation as a side that is very well-organised and tough to beat. What’s more they have often performed better on the road and their average of 1.36 points per game away is better than what they’ve managed in Vitoria.
Depor’s recent form also suggests the visitors will at least avoid defeat here. The Galicians have gone 7 matches without a win in all competitions and are now just 3 points above the drop-zone. They have a few capable attacking players, with play-maker Emre Colak perhaps the most dangerous. The Turk is in good form and has scored in their last 2 matches so backing Emre Colak to score anytime at 7/2 could be worth a flutter here.
Both teams have scored in 67% of their games this term in La Liga and 14 of their last 17 in all competitions so although they’ve offered more of a goal threat than might have been expected, Deportivo La Coruna haven’t been impossible to break down. 5 of their last 7 matches have ended in draws and that includes both legs of a Copa del Rey tie against Alaves last month.
This again promises to be a close game and given Depor are struggling for wins and Alaves are tough to beat, backing Draw or CD Alaves at 5/6 looks to offer value.
