Waterford United to Win and Over 1.5 Match Goals

Reason for tip

Waterford have won four of their last eight away league games while Drogheda United have lost seven of their last nine Premier Division matches. There are usually a few goals in the matches of both teams.

Waterford United 2-0

Reason for tip

Drogheda United have failed to score in two of their last three league games at home and may do so again with Waterford looking to extend a solid away record. The Drogs have conceded 24 goals during a nine-game winless run in the league, but although Waterford have scored multiple goals in their last two wins on the road, but never more than two each time so a 2-0 win may be the limit of their firepower.

Blues can bounce back with a win at Weavers Park

Waterford can return to winning ways in the Premier Division when they travel to Weavers Park to face relegation-threatened Drogheda United on Friday night.

Keith Long’s side slipped up on their venture west to face Galway United a fortnight ago and will still be smarting from the defeat which leaves a seven-point gap to Derry City in second place. But the Blues did beat amateurs Cockhill Celtic in the cup to regain the winning thread last weekend and should be in a positive mood after the addition of a couple of new signings recently.

Ex-Leicester City youngster Shane Flynn made his bow in the cup and could keep his place in the starting line-up while new loan signing from Fleetwood, Sam Glenfield, could make his debut for the club.

Waterford will put the hosts under the pump

Waterford have good away form, having won four of their last eight league games on the road, and should put the struggling hosts under plenty of pressure.

Drogheda United have lost seven of their last nine league games and shipped a boat load of goals in the process of picking up just two points from the last 27 on offer.

The Drogs have conceded a league-worst 47 goals this term, but most worrying of all for manager Kevin Doherty is that more than half of them have come in the last nine games. We’re expecting Waterford to win and with at least a couple of goals going into the back of the home side’s net with a 2-0 scoreline a preference for correct score backers.
