Rock-bottom Dundee will host surprise package Livingston at Dens Park on Boxing Day in an attempt to make it out the relegation zone. Can the Dee get a result?

Dundee returned and stayed in the 12th place position after they failed to pick up any points in their last three games. This bad run of games comes after a relatively successful period for the club in the league.

Jim McIntyre has done a relatively good job since taking over at the club back in October, despite taking a while to get his side to play and pick up points the way the ex-Ross County manager wanted to. A 1-1 draw against St Mirren was the first positive result in the manager’s tenure. Another draw would follow the first, as the Dee came back from 2-0 to level with Hibs at Easter Road. Dundee would then go on to thrash Hamilton 4-0, their first in several weeks. That win would be followed by a positive 1-1 draw with Rangers.

However, Dundee have been lacking conviction in their last three outings. They’ve conceded 11 goals in just three games, barely scoring in the process. Their first defeat came at the hands of Kilmarnock, who defeated the Dee 3-1. Aberdeen would put 4 past McIntyre’s men last Tuesday before Celtic extended the club’s pointless run over the weekend.

Livingston have established themselves as a top-flight club since they returned to the Scottish Premiership this season after over a decade away from Scotland’s top flight.

The appointment of Gary Holt early on in the season, replacing player/manager Kenny Miller, has been a godsend for the club. Under his guidance the West Lothian team climbed all the way to the top spots for a brief period, thanks to an impressive seven-game unbeaten run

Since that impressive run, Livingston went four games without a win. November saw the West Lothian club back to their winning ways when they beat Motherwell 2-0, and they have been struggling to find consistency ever since, as Livi went on to lose to Kilmarnock, then beat St Mirren before losing yet again during their midweek trip to Aberdeen- followed by dismantling of Hearts in the space of 15 minutes at the Tony Macaroni Arena. After a goalless 70 minutes, Livingston scored five times to claim the three points. Their most recent game saw them snatch an away draw with Hibs. Ryan Hardie’s 56th minute opener wasn’t enough for the visitors, as Ryan Porteous brought things level ten minutes from time.

Dundee are fresh off a pointless run after many weeks of hope. A Boxing Day present in the shape of three points would be perfect for Dundee fans, but Livingston are one of the better defensive teams in the league. Livi’s away form isn’t the best, and they’ve lost seven and drawn twice in their away days this season. We’re going to back a 1-0 win for the hosts for this fixture.
