Egypt and Both Teams To Score

Reason for tip

Egypt are a few levels above Zimbabwe, who are massive outsiders in this tournament, and they should be able to open their account with a win. The Warriors can at least strike in defeat, however, as they have scored in back-to-back games against Algeria and Qatar and Egypt have gone six games without a clean sheet.

Egypt 3-1

Reason for tip

Egypt should win fairly comfortably but both teams have scored in four of their last five games and they have conceded in all of those. That suggests both teams can score, but the Pharaohs can still win with some room to spare and a 3-1 Egypt win has a chance.

Egypt vs Zimbabwe Predictions

  • Egypt have eight wins and just three defeats in 16 games in 2025.
  • Zimbabwe have four defeats in their last six games.
  • The Pharaohs have gone six games without a clean sheet.

Record holders Egypt can make winning start

Egypt are the most successful nation in AFCON history with seven titles and they are among the favourites to take the title this year ahead of Monday’s opener against Zimbabwe.

The Pharaohs are seeking their first title since 2010, having finished as runners-up twice since their last success, and are behind only hosts Morocco in the betting for the latest edition of the African Cup of Nations.

Zimbabwe are unfancied and they come into the tournament in poor form. Egypt are heavy favourites to win on Monday in Agadir and they should be able to kick off with a win, but a clean sheet is perhaps less likely.

Egypt’s usually solid defence has now gone six games without a clean sheet, conceding against the likes of Kuwait and the UAE during that run.

Zimbabwe played two warm-up games in November and signed off with a 2-1 win over a decent Qatar team, scoring in defeat to Algeria prior to that.

That suggests the Warriors can at least get on the scoresheet but Egypt’s quality should see them win fairly comfortably regardless and a 3-1 win for the designated home side appeals given the gulf in quality and experience between these two sides.
