Erling Braut Haaland To Score Anytime

Reason for tip

Erling Haaland scored 29 goals in 30 games for Borussia Dortmund last season across all competitions.  He scored on his debuts for BVB and former club Molde, and can open his account on his league debut for City.

West Ham United vs Manchester City Predictions

  • West Ham won just one of their final eight games last season, losing five.
  • Manchester City won 14 of their 19 league trips last term, losing once.
  • The Hammer scored in all of their home league games in 2021/22.
  • City scored over two goals-per-game on average on their travels.

City start title defence in London

Manchester City kick off their Premier League title defence with a tough trip to West Ham on Sunday.

Boss Pep Guardiola has brought in Erling Haaland and Kalvin Phillips ahead of the new season but there have been a few big departures as well, with Raheem Sterling making the move to Chelsea.

The Hammers will feel they have a chance of gatecrashing the top four after coming in seventh last term, but they will struggle to get anything out of their opener.

Both teams capable of scoring

West Ham claimed a 2-2 draw when these sides met at this venue in May last season after opening up a 2-0 first half lead, although Riyad Mahrez missed from the spot late on as City fell short in their comeback bid.

The Hammers scored in all of their home league games last season and they’ve scored in each of their last four Premier League skirmishes with City so they should be able to find a way through, and a win for the visitors with both teams scoring looks a strong play for our main bet.

City can move on from Community Shield setback

The champions looked a little sluggish in their Community Shield loss to Liverpool but I’m expecting an improved showing on Sunday.

Liverpool were definitely the more motivated team in that game, and that may have been the wakeup call Guardiola’s men needed ahead of what is likely to be another fiercely contested title fight this season.

City scored an average of 3.25 goals per-game in their last four away days and over the entire season they averaged over two goals per-game on their travels so a 3-1 win for the visitors is my correct score selection.

Haaland had a day to forget against Liverpool as a couple of chances went begging but he can put that right when he makes his league debut. The Norwegian scored on his debut for former clubs Molde and Borussia Dortmund and can open his Premier League account at the first attempt this weekend.
