West Ham United vs Manchester City Predictions
- These sides have scored a combined 20 goals in the Premier League this season
- Two of West Ham’s last three games have featured over 3.5 goals
- Manchester City have kept just one clean sheet in their last four matches
Red-hot Citizens will take some stopping
Defending champions Manchester City are the early pacesetters in this season’s Premier League, having won all four of their opening games, but punters may not want to rush backing them away to West Ham.
City started the season with wins to nil against Burnley and Newcastle and, even with Pep Guardiola unable to attend due to surgery, they followed up with wins over Sheffield United and Fulham before the international break.
The 5-1 win over Fulham was particularly eye-catching as Erling Haaland bagged a second-half hat-trick and last season’s treble winners look as dangerous as ever.
Goals on the cards at London Stadium
That said, West Ham have also made a strong start to the season and should give Manchester City a run for their money.
Four matches have yielded three wins and a draw so far for the Hammers, who went into the recent hiatus in the Champions League places.
After Newcastle, Brighton and Aston Villa all defied expectations to make the top seven last term, West Ham will feel anything is possible and they have been playing with serious confidence.
They have already beaten Chelsea and Brighton as part of their fine start and it is not out of the question that they could get a positive result against City at the London Stadium.
However, the better bet in this fixture is over 3.5 goals.
West Ham have not held back recently, striking eight goals in their three league fixtures before the break, while City scored five against Fulham last time out.
However, the Citizens also shipped against both Sheffield United and Fulham and their resolve is likely to be tested at the London Stadium, where West Ham picked up eight of their 11 league wins and 28 of their 40 points in the Premier League last season.
With that in mind the goals angle makes sense, while a 2-2 represents a decent correct score prediction with West Ham capable of giving Manchester City a game in the capital.
In-form Bowen could pounce
Haaland is the obvious goalscorer candidate for this match after his hat-trick against the Cottagers but the Norwegian does not represent a lot of value, while it can be tricky to label likely starters for Guardiola’s side.
A West Ham goalscorer bet could therefore be the way to go and Jarrod Bowen makes an appeal.
The Hammers winger has bagged three goals in the Premier League already this season, having also laid on an assist, and could be key to any counter-attacks from the hosts.
