Both Teams To Score
Chelsea 2-1
Kai Havertz To Score Anytime
Tip Reasoning
- Both teams have scored in seven of Chelsea’s last ten competitive home games.
- Newcastle have scored in each of their last nine Premier League matches.
- Kai Havertz has scored five goals in his last six appearances for Chelsea.
Chelsea run continues amid uncertainty
Chelsea responded perfectly to their off-field issues on Thursday with an easy win over the Championship-bound Norwich but it will be a strange return to Stamford Bridge on Sunday as they play in front of a half-capacity crowd.
With no away fans permitted, that is still likely to play in the Blues favour and their recent form suggests they have what it takes to end Newcastle’s unbeaten streak, although it’s unlikely to be plain sailing all the way.
Safety within sight for Newcastle
The Magpies put ten points between themselves and the relegation zone with a hard-fought win at Southampton on Thursday and with six wins and no defeats in their last nine Premier League fixtures their safety is all but assured now.
That being said, the fixture list has been rather kind to them over this period, with only two top-seven opposition faced and both of these ending in draws. Chelsea, sitting third in the table, will be much stronger opposition than any they have faced recently.
Goals at both ends expected
While I do expect Chelsea to get the three points, Thomas Tuchel’s side have conceded in seven of their last ten competitive home games and Newcatle haven’t failed to score in a league game since before Christmas, so backing both teams to score appeals.
Chelsea have scored exactly two goals in five of their last six home games so a 2-1 correct score prediction is also on the cards, while Kai Havertz to get on the scoresheet looks excellent value after the Germany international bagged five goals in his last six appearances.
Chelsea predicted lineup: Mendy; Chalobah, Silva, Rudiger; Azpilicueta, Kante, Kovacic, Niguez; Mount, Ziyech; Havertz
Newcastle predicted lineup: Dubravka; Manquillo, Schar, Burn, Targett; Shelvey, Guimaraes, Joelinton; Murphy, Saint-Maximin; Wood
- Chelsea have won five of their last six matches
