Eintracht Frankfurt vs Darmstadt Predictions

Just over half a year after surviving a relegation play-off, Niko Kovac’s Frankfurt pushed themselves up to 3rd place in the Bundesliga after last Friday’s 1-0 away to Schalke 04 last Saturday. Meanwhile, Darmstadt 98 are enduring their worst Bundesliga campaign ever and already seem set for automatic relegation after a humiliating 6-1 defeat at home to Cologne last time. Things look bleak as Darmstadt’s win-less streak extends with every passing week (D1 L9 from their last 10).

Eintracht Frankfurt are the favourites here at 11/20. Despite the short odds, there is still likely to be some decent value in an outright bet on the hosts, simply because of Darmstadt’s form. However, we feel there’s even more value to be had backing Eintracht Frankfurt to win to nil at 11/8 for the following reasons: Frankfurt have undergone a complete overhaul since their poor campaign last season – Eintracht currently hold the 2nd best defensive record in the Bundesliga (just 15 goals conceded) and the hosts are unbeaten in ten consecutive matches (W7 D3) at the Commerzbank Arena.

Not only have Frankfurt kept a clean sheet in 50% of home matches, conceding only to sides as strong as, Bayern Munich (2-2 draw), Dortmund (2-1 win), Bayer Leverkusen (2-1 win) and Hertha Berlin (3-3 draw), but Darmstadt, who are nowhere near the same level as those mentioned, have scored just one goal in their last six Bundesliga matches. Even this was not from open play but rather from the penalty spot.

Darmstadt have lost all of their eight away matches so far this season and, notably, failed to score in 68% of these. These statistics alone make odds of 11/8 on the hosts to win to nil hugely profitable, but Darmstadt’s position as the weakest attacking side in the Bundesliga (just 12 goals scored) make this an even more promising prospect. Regarding a correct score bet, with Frankfurt averaging 1.75 goals per match at home, we feel that Eintracht Frankfurt to win 2-0 at 11/2 should be a reasonable shout here.
