Eintracht Frankfurt vs Tottenham Hotspur Predictions
- Both teams have scored in seven of Eintracht Frankfurt’s last eight games
- Frankfurt have conceded three goals in each of their last five matches
- Tottenham have scored at least twice in five of their last six Champions League outings
Spurs will look to be positive
Many Tottenham fans remain discontented with manager Thomas Frank, but his team’s Champions League performances have been much better than their domestic endeavours and they have a great chance of qualifying for the knockout stage as one of the top eight finishers.
Two wins in their last 14 Premier League outings and an FA Cup exit means Spurs have to put all their eggs in this particular basket, and a win at Eintracht Frankfurt would be enough for them to head straight into the last 16.
The pair met in a tight Europa League quarter-final last season when a Dominic Solanke penalty took Spurs through, but they face a Bundesliga side who have found it difficult to live up to last season when they finished third in the German top flight.
Goals have been huge feature of Frankfurt’s season
While they reside in a disappointing eighth in their domestic standings, the striking statistic of their season is that Frankfurt’s 19 league games have featured a whopping 81 goals.
Unfortunately for them, 42 of those have been at the wrong end, which means they have the Bundesliga’s joint-leakiest defence – they conceded 46 in their entire 34-game season last term.
The loss of Omar Marmoush to Manchester City and Hugo Ekitike to Liverpool in the last year have weakened them at the other end too and their Champions League experience turned into a nightmare when they followed an opening 5-1 win over Galatasaray by taking just one point from their next six matches.
Romero can continue his streak
The fact Frankfurt are unable to progress to the knockout stage should ensure they play with some freedom and we could witness an encounter that is in marked contrast to their meeting with Spurs last season.
A point may not be enough for the Londoners to achieve their aims, but a team who have won just one of their last seven Premier League away matches are difficult to trust on the road, so it seems more sensible to go for over 3.5 goals, with a correct-score bet of 2-2 being of potential interest to those looking at that market.
Tottenham skipper Cristian Romero looks an attractive price to score, particularly as the Argentinian has netted in his last three matches.
He has been the man on the spot for Spurs, but ten attempts in his last four matches suggests the defender is keen to make his presence felt at the other end.
