Empoli vs Cremonese Predictions

No goalfest expected on Friday

Empoli were the latest side to try – in vain – to halt Napoli’s incredible run of form on Tuesday, but they remain seven points clear of the relegation zone despite their 2-0 defeat in that fixture, and will be favourites to atone when they host winless Cremonese on Friday. However, punters should not expect Paolo Zanetti’s men to do so in convincing fashion, with a goalfest unlikely.

Indeed, Empoli have now seen under 2.5 goals scored in five of their last six matches, the only exception in that run being a 4-0 thrashing by Juventus, and they have failed to score multiple goals in any of their last nine outings. Three of Empoli’s last four fixtures have seen them fail to hit the net, and only Sampdoria – with a measly six – have fared worse in front of goal in Serie A, with Zanetti’s men hitting the net 10 times in 14 league outings this term.

Cremonese have only scored one goal more than Empoli this season, and they too have failed to score in three of their last four matches. Massimiliano Alvini’s men have posted seven draws and seven defeats so far this campaign, and are running out of chances to get on the board before the World Cup. However, they have been far more solid of late – as a 0-0 draw with AC Milan on Tuesday demonstrated.

Cagey affair likely in Tuscany

Cremonese have conceded just three times in their last four Serie A games, having shipped 11 goals in their previous four. Given Empoli’s own struggles in front of goal, we’re tipping under 2.5 goals to be scored in Tuscany.

Despite the visitors’ improvements, Empoli may be worth backing for a narrow victory. After seeing Zanetti’s side win two of their last three home games 1-0, it may be prudent to expect a repeat.
