Barcelona to maintain good run

Barcelona have been creeping up the La Liga table after a seven game unbeaten run, and they suddenly find themselves in the top four ahead of the weekend’s round of fixtures.

Their away form remains a touch concerning, still picking up just the three wins in 11 attempts on their travels, but two of those have come in recent weeks, at Granada and Mallorca.

Xavi appears to be working wonders at the Camp Nou and he will be keen to extend a strong run against their city rivals – Barca have not lost in the league to Espanyol in 23 games since February 2009.

Espanyol hurtling down the table

There are now just nine points between Espanyol and the relegation zone thanks to a run of three defeats in their last four games, with each of those losses containing three or more goals.

They have not kept a clean sheet in twelve attempts, and their defensive struggles are highlighted by conceding at least twice in three successive home games, and in six of their last seven at all venues.

Despite their form, what runs in Vicente Moreno’s side’s favour is they have still only lost three times at the RCDE Stadium, winning six of their 11 La Liga outings there.

I predict both teams will score and there will be three or more goals, as Espanyol do tend to score but they are poor at the back. A correct score prediction is slightly tougher, but based on form I select 2-1 to the visitors.
