Can Exeter notch up a first win?

Exeter’s return to League One last weekend saw them let a 1-0 lead slip in a 1-1 draw with Lincoln, their third game in four in which both teams have scored.

The Grecians, who lost 1-0 against Port Vale towards the back end of last season, have only failed to score in two of their last ten competitive matches, stretching back to March.

Matt Taylor’s side meanwhile finished the 2021/22 campaign by winning nine of their final dozen outings at St James’ Park, losing just once.

Port Vale were also promoted last year, and they started this season by picking up an impressive 2-1 victory at home to Fleetwood.

That result banished any fears they might be a bit under-cooked having had only two pre-season friendlies, giving little time for a whole host of new signings to bed in.

Darrell Clarke’s side scored in all bar two of their final dozen away outings in their successful campaign, while 15 of their last 20 matches on the road saw both teams score.

I predict that both teams will score in this game too, but I expect them to be tough to separate, with 1-1 my correct score prediction.
