Tip Reasoning

  • Porto have won to nil in 88% of their home games this season.
  • Porto have won 100% of their home meetings with Gil Vicente (16/16)
  • Gil Vicente have failed to score in 62% of their away games this term.

Porto off the title pace

Benfica have won the Primeira title in five of the last six seasons and they are on course for their 39th championship as Porto currently sit 10 points behind the leaders with a game in hand. Porto beat their rivals in game week three 2-0 away from home and many thought there would be another classic battle for the title.

However, Benfica have since won every game and despite Porto winning 11 of the 14 games since that famous win in Benfica, they find themselves 10 points off the pace. A 2-1 home defeat to Braga last time out has made it very difficult for them to rein the champions in this season.

Porto struggling for goals

Porto are usually handy in front of goal but this season they have struggled; their top scorer is Ze Luis with seven goals in 12 games, a player that has reportedly been offered to Spurs on loan for the rest of the season.

They have scored 35 times this season in 17 games at a rate of 2.06 per game. This is down on last season (2.18 per game) and 2017/18 (2.41 per game) and would represent their worst goalscoring season since 2015/16.

Meanwhile, Gil Vicente have found themselves on a good run of form; they are currently unbeaten in four league games and have lost just once in their last eight league outings, picking up four wins in the process. Those eight games have produced 15 points, far outweighing the nine points they picked up in their opening nine games.

Gil Vicente’s horrendous form in Porto

This represents a much tougher test than they have faced, however, and like most Portuguese teams they have a terrible record away from home against Porto. Porto have won all 16 of their home meetings against Gil Vicente and remarkably have conceded just four goals in those 16 games.

Porto’s home form this season makes for no better reading for the visitors; they have kept a clean sheet in seven of their eight home games and scored 2.38 per game on home soil. For that reason, we think Porto to win to nil looks a good investment here.

On the correct score front, Porto have won three of their eight home games by a 3-0 scoreline and we are backing them to do the same again here.
