Under 2.5 Match Goals

Reason for tip

Fewer than three goals have been scored in three of Feyenoord’s last four home league games.  Three of AZ’s five Eredivisie away games this season and the last three meetings of the clubs in all competitions have also seen under 2.5 goals land.

Feyenoord 1-0

Reason for tip

One goal may be enough for Feyenoord to grind out a much-needed win with AZ struggling for goals of late, especially away from home.

Feyenoord need to bounce back from Ajax loss

AZ may look to dig in for a result when they head to Rotterdam to face Feyenoord in the Eredivisie on Saturday.

When these two met at the same stage last season, the clash was billed as a battle of title rivals, but neither could currently be described that way as they respectively sit 11 and 13 points off the top.

Feyenoord need to bounce back from the midweek home defeat to bitter rivals Ajax that has halted their momentum while AZ’s slump in form after a promising start to the campaign has left many wondering what has happened to them.

Injuries and bad luck are costing AZ

The answer is probably as simple as the amount of injuries they have had with the likes of Bruno Martins Indi, Lewis Schouten and Ruben van Bommel among those currently sidelined. They have also had to endure some bad breaks in terms of refereeing or VAR calls with a potential winner in last weekend’s 2-2 draw against Go Ahead Eagles scrubbed off a week after they were controversially reduced to 10 men in the 10th minute against PSV.

Maartens’ side are not as bad as their recent results suggest and could make it tough for Feyenoord to find a way through, as Ajax did when they restricted the Rotterdammers to just two shots on target on Wednesday.

Back Under 2.5 goals in preference to a Feyenoord win here, although both could come in. Fewer than three goals have been scored in three of Feyenoord’s last four home league games
and in three of AZ’s five Eredivisie away games this season, plus each of the last three head-to-head meetings.
