Gorodeya find their feet after slow start

Gorodeya have established themselves as a comfortable mid-table side in the Belarus Premier League since their debut in the top flight back in 2016. They finished 9th in the table in each of their first three campaigns before making a small step upwards last year to finish 7th.

Nothing looked to have changed at the start of the 2020 season either, with back to back defeats against Vitebsk and Shakhtyor setting them off on the wrong foot. However, Gorodeya have bounced back in very promising fashion since then.

Last weekend’s 1-0 win away to Energetik-BGU made it three wins in a row, all of which were settled by a 1-0 scoreline. They have pushed themselves up to 4th in the table and could potentially go top with a win on Saturday.

BATE continue to struggle in 2020

BATE, of course, are the historical stars in the Belarus top flight. Up until last year they had won every Premier League title since 2005 – the year before Gorodeya was established as a futsal club –  but 2019’s capitulation seems to have done some damage.

The visitors come into this match fresh from a dismal goalless draw at home to Torpedo-BelAZ, and they have only won two of their last six competitive games. This includes two defeats to Slavia Mozyr and a 3-1 thrashing at the hands of Energetik-BGU on the opening day of the season.

BATE have taken just seven points from their opening five games, last enduring a worse run of league form in 2014. Away from home they have lost three of their last four in all competitions, and their record at Gorodeya isn’t exactly spotless either.

History points towards home team success

In fact, Gorodeya are unbeaten at home to BATE since 2011 and have never lost a home league game against them. Their last two hostings of BATE have ended in victory too, so backing a Gorodeya win or draw double chance is very appealing considering the circumstances.

Last season’s instalment of this fixture ended in a 1-0 win for Gorodeya and we’re expecting something similar on Saturday. Gorodeya have won their last three outings by that scoreline and three of their last five home league games have also ended 1-0, so that’s what we’re backing for our correct score prediction.
