Flamengo vs Sao Paulo Predictions

Saturday’s Brazilian Serie A action sees league leading Flamengo doing battle with out of form Sao Paulo at the Maracana. The hosts come into the game as big favourites and are expected to claim victory without too many issues.

With every passing match in Serie A, it’s looking more and more likely that it’ll be Flamengo who go on to win the title. After a comfortable 3-1 win over Internacional in midweek, Jorge Jesus’ troops maintained their 3 point lead at the top of table and more remarkably, made it 8 wins on the bounce in league action.

Though their squad has been constructed at huge financial cost and contains supreme quality in all areas, you still have to commend Flamengo for the manner in which they are playing and they are an excellent side to watch. Indeed, they’ve scored an average of 2.23 goals a game so far this season and they’ll be looking to flex their attacking muscles this weekend to secure another important win.

Meanwhile, all is nowhere near as rosy as far as Sao Paulo are concerned and Tricolor don’t arrive for the game in great shape. After a 1-0 home defeat to a fairly weak Goias outfit in midweek, manager Cuca was given his marching orders by the club and the team faces a fight to try and finish in the top 6 over the coming months.

Having won just 1 of their last 6 matches, Sao Paulo are really struggling at the moment and a trip to Flamengo is the last thing they need right now. Indeed, they’ve failed to even so much as score in 4 of said games and having scored just 9 away goals in 10 matches so far this season, it’s hard to envisage their threat being anything but limited on Saturday.

Ultimately, you can only see there being one winner in this game and that’s Flamengo. They look simply unstoppable at the moment and the forward line of Everton, De Arrascaeta, Bruno Henrique and Gabigol is giving them an attacking edge that allows them to blow teams away on firepower alone.

As such, backing Flamengo on the -1 handicap looks the best way to play as far as the betting is concerned and is something we’re more than happy to do at an appealing price. They’ve won 6 of their current 8 league match winning streak by more than one and shouldn’t have any problems in dispatching of managerless Sao Paulo, with a 3-0 margin of home victory on the cards.
