Germany vs England Predictions

  • Germany are unbeaten in their last 10 games
  • The hosts have won four straight home games, scoring 19 times
  • England have lost three of their last four Nations League games
  • Germany have seen BTTS in three of their last four

Rough start for England

England returned to action on Saturday with what appeared to be a straightforward clash with Hungary, but they put in a poor display in a 1-0 defeat. The Three Lions looked short on imagination in that defeat and it doesn’t bode well for this week’s clash away to Germany.

The Three Lions won when these two sides met at Euro 2020, but Germany look improved under Hansi Flick. The Germans will aim to gain revenge for that defeat last summer, especially as they look to establish themselves as the top team in the pool with Italy struggling and England already slipping up. A win for the hosts would make them frontrunners for the Nations League semis already.

Germans rebuilding

Since their Euro 2020 exit, Germany have put together a 10-game unbeaten run. They won seven-straight qualifiers to book their place in Qatar, scoring an impressive 29 goals along the way. They’re successfully rebuilding after consecutive underwhelming displays at tournaments, while their Nations League record was poor under Joachim Low.

The Germans should have been relegated from the top tier of this competition in the first edition, while they won just two of their 10 Nations League games under Low. However, the Germans managed to remain unbeaten at home in that run in spite of their struggles. With their fortunes turning under Flick, they should be hard to stop in Munich.

Three Lions look unconvincing

The visitors have some big questions to answer after their dismal loss at Hungary, while they’ve now lost three of their last four Nations League games. England also don’t have the greatest record in competitive meetings with top quality opponents, with their win over Germany last summer a rare success over Europe’s top sides.

Germany have stepped up since that loss and their side contains some of the continent’s best players. The hosts have won four straight home games, scoring 19 times, so they look good value to take the points on Tuesday night.

I can’t see England being quite so uncreative once again, while the Germans have seen both teams score in three of their last four. Given that, I’m backing the hosts to claim a 2-1 win in my correct score prediction.
