Getafe vs Valladolid Predictions

  • Getafe head into this weekend’s fixture in 5th place with only goal difference separating them from the top four after six wins from nine.
  • The hosts have only lost to champions Barcelona at Coliseum Alfonso Perez this term (0-2), notching four wins and three draws in their other seven matches.
  • Valladolid are without a win and a goal in four La Liga games and have won just one of their last seven on the road, losing four.

Getafe thriving on all fronts

It was always going to be a nervy occasion at Coliseum Alfonso Perez on Thursday evening as Getafe and Krasnodar locked horns for a place in the Last 32 of the Europa League, but Pepe Bordalas’ side eventually asserted themselves thanks to three goals in the final 15 minutes from Cabrera, Molina and Kenedy

The 3-0 win sealed Getafe’s progress to the knockout stages and the Madrid based outfit can now put continental football to bed for the foreseeable future to focus solely on La Liga. That will be a worry for the majority of sides towards the top of the table, as Bordalas’ charges have been flying in recent weeks despite their Europa League commitments.

It took Getafe a few weeks to adapt to their regular Thursday / Sunday scheduling and they began the season slowly with just one win from their first seven league matches, but they have since won six from nine to move up to 5th where they are level on points with 4th placed Real Sociedad.

They demonstrated their usual tenacity to sneak a 0-1 success at Eibar last weekend courtesy of a winner midway through the second half from Angel and they will be difficult to overcome back on home soil this Sunday where they have lost only to Barcelona this term.

Valladolid going back to basics

Valladolid lost just twice and conceded only nine goals in their first ten matches this season, but their solid start was soon undone as they went onto lose three of their next four outings including a 3-0 hammering at Alaves on Matchday 12.

It’s been up to boss Sergio to steady the ship over the last fortnight or so and the 43 year-old has certainly done that, prioritising defence to oversee consecutive 0-0 stalemates away to Celta Vigo and at home to Real Sociedad.

The latter result was enough to edge Valladolid back up to 14th in the standings and they go into this Sunday’s match with a healthy six point buffer over the relegation zone. Pucela will be hoping to build further here on recent results, but they face a stiff task considering they have won just one of their last seven away games, losing four.

Getafe to prevail in a low scoring affair

Under 2.5 goals at around 8/15 should be seriously looked at for this encounter based on the fact that 23 of these sides’ 32 games this season have produced that outcome, with the same also applying to four of the last five meetings between the pair.

However, we’re opting for a Getafe victory for our main tip at a much healthier 4/6, which looks generous considering the hosts have accrued ten points from their last four La Liga matches at Coliseum Alfonso Perez including a 4-0 cruise against Levante a fortnight ago.

Europa League exertions haven’t been taking their toll on Pepe Bordalas’ side in recent times and they should be buoyed for this fixture after their crucial triumph against Krasnodar in midweek.

And in the correct score market, we’re going for a 2-0 result. As outlined, we also fancy fewer than 2.5 goals in this one and the visitors haven’t scored in their last four games. With that in mind, 2-0 looks feasible as Getafe have averaged just under two goals per game on their own turf this season.
