Girona can keep up the early pace

Girona have been the surprise package in La Liga this season and after ten games they find themselves locked level at the top with Real Madrid on 25 points.

Michel Sanchez’s side have won eight and drawn one of those ten fixtures, having suffered defeat only to fellow highflyers Real.

Other than that 3-0 defeat to Los Blancos, it has been a near perfect start to the campaign for Girona who last season could finish only tenth after failing to win any of their final five matches.

At some point Girona will be expected to be reeled in by the chasing pack, but they have responded superbly to that reverse against Real with back-to-back wins over Cadiz and Almeria.

Celta’s winless run may be extended

The Gironistes were 5-2 winners at home to Almeria last weekend, which means they have won four of their five league games on their own patch and racked up 14 goals along the way.

And there is no reason to believe that their strong start will be undone by visitors Celta Vigo, who are third from bottom having taken only six points from ten outings.

Celta are winless in six La Liga assignments and they have conceded at least twice in four of their last five games.

That should be music to the ears of an attack-minded Girona, who can claim their ninth win in 11 league games.

It should be a fairly open contest and correct-score punters can opt for a 2-1 home win given Celta lost their last away game by that margin at Las Palmas.
