The hosts have four games left to play and know they’re in pole position for a European finish, as they currently have a one-point cushion in seventh. It would be huge for Girona to make the Europa Conference League, but Saturday brings a potentially tricky clash as they look to stay in the top seven.

The hosts meet a Villarreal side who harbour slim hopes of making the top four, but they visit one of the league’s form sides and head to a very difficult ground to play at. Girona have won six of their last seven home games in La Liga and they can build on that momentum to take a huge step towards Europe.

Away form could cost visitors

Villarreal have lost seven times on their travels so far this season, with those defeats coming frequently against the sides in the Eurpean mix. The fifth-placed visitors have lost three of their five meetings with the top six on the road, while they’ve also lost at eigth-placed Athletic, 10th-placed Sevilla and a Real Mallorca side who are just three points shy of seventh.

Outside of the top four, Girona have won nine of 13 home games, suffering only one defeat. They should be confident of stopping Villarreal on current form, with the hosts winning four on the bounce at their own ground.

Villarreal have scored in each of their last 13 La Liga matches, so they should help make this an entertaining affair. However, I’m taking Girona to claim a victory, with a 2-1 win my correct score prediction.
