Houston Dynamo vs Vancouver Whitecaps Predictions

The visitors are aiming to end their awful start to the 2019 MLS campaign when they head south on Saturday. They’re making one of their biggest trips of the campaign, heading down to Houston. The hosts are coming into this one looking to bounce back from a midweek setback, but they are pushing to continue a solid start to the new season.

Houston Dynamo lost in the Champions League in midweek, with their 1-0 loss at Mexican side Tigres seeing them crash out 3-0 on aggregate. The hosts may have their continental campaign over, but they are hoping to add to their four points from their first two MLS games of 2019. Last weekend brought a 2-1 win over another Canadian side, Montreal Impact. They are at home for the third time this season on Saturday, but will this weekend bring them another home victory?

Vancouver Whitecaps are also on the back of a setback, as they were beaten 1-0 at Real Salt Lake last weekend. The visitors have zero points from their first two games. They were beaten 3-2 at home to Minnesota United in the opening weekend, so they are heading into this one in need of a turnaround. Last season the Whitecaps finished two points shy of the playoffs at the end of the campaign, but after just two games it looks like they could be slipping further off the pace.

The good thing for the visitors is that they still pack a threat going forward. They are set to start in a 4-3-3 here, with former Sporting man Fredy Montero leading the line. The forward should get adequate support in this one after the Whitecaps had 16 attempts in their defeat last weekend. They are likely to take one of those, as they prepare to face a side who are without a clean sheet in their last five games.

The Dynamo have conceded in their opening two league games, along with their struggles in the Champions League. Their habit for high scoring matches has bled over from last season, as they’ve seen both teams score in their last seven league games. Last term they saw both teams score in 71% of their MLS matches, while we see a high scoring encounter here. BTTS landed in 74% of the Whitecaps’ clashes, while five of the last six meetings between these two have finished without a clean sheet. We are backing a high scoring clash once again, with the hosts failing to keep a clean sheet in their last 10 at this ground in the league.
